How to Get Past Self Doubt as a Food Blogger

As a food blogger, you probably know all too well the feeling of self-doubt that creeps in every now and then. You start to question your skills, your abilities, and whether or not you’re cut out for this gig.

self doubt can be very draining and unproductive. The Atlantic ocean in the background to create a relaxing feeling.

The truth is, everyone experiences self-doubt at some point—even the most successful bloggers. But the difference between those bloggers and those who give up is that the successful ones find ways to get past their doubt and keep moving forward.

If I had a dollar for every time I experienced self doubt, I would have enough to go grocery shopping for at least a month. Seriously, I was pretty bad!

Important tips for food bloggers is another great post for getting beyond (or preventing) self doubt. It covers 5 of the major things that lead up to it!

Celebrate Your Successes

Food bloggers (all bloggers really) should be celebrating every success. Every time you hit a milestone, no matter how small, take a moment to celebrate. This could be anything from getting your first 100 views on a post to landing a major media placement. Whatever it is, big or small, give yourself a pat on the back and relish in your success.

Not only will this help you to stay motivated, but it will also help you to see just how far you’ve come. And when you’re feeling down about your blog, remembering your past successes can help to give you the boost you need to keep going.

I had to break my goals down a bit. I was always a reach for the stars kind of person but disappointed when I didn’t hit that big goal right away. There were many projects I had given up on throughout my life because I didn’t get to my big goal quick enough.

It was when I stepped back and broke them down into smaller goals that I started to get into a groove. It took me years to figure this out and implement it, but once I did I really started to see progress. My goal here with this blog is to keep you guys and gals from going down that long and unproductive road!

So next time self-doubt starts creeping in, remember to set small goals and celebrate your small wins. This will help you to get excited instead of facing self doubt.

Online Communities for Food Bloggers

Find online communities of food bloggers who can support and encourage you.  As competitive as we are, we are also very supportive of one another! Well many of us are at least.

One of the best ways to get past self-doubt is to find a community of like-minded individuals who can encourage and support you. When you’re feeling down, they can help to pick you back up. They understand the challenges and obstacles that come with being a blogger, so they can offer valuable advice and insight.

So many times I see food bloggers posting about how they just want to give up because of something. We have all been there so when you share this with other food bloggers they typically have amazing words of encouragement and advice!

I remember being down about how ugly our kitchen is. Ok it’s not super ugly but it is food picture ugly. I can’t use my counters because they look blah, my cabinets put off a crazy color (they are a weird brown) and I would see successful food bloggers with amazing kitchens.

Then one day a successful food blogger in a Facebook group who is absolutely amazing (she is somebody I look up to) shared with us pictures of how she started. She first started taking pictures on a set up on the floor. Her kitchen wasn’t picture friendly either back then. She pushed and grew her blog to make enough money to buy a new home with a studio for her blogging, but she started out like me. I could relate and that gave me quite a bit of encouragement!

There are a number of online communities specifically for food bloggers on Facebook, such as Food Bloggers Central. This is a great place to connect with other bloggers, ask questions, and get advice. I am not an admin over at the Facebook group, but it is my favorite group that has helped me out a lot!

So if you’re feeling doubtful about your blog, reach out to your fellow food bloggers for support. They’ll be more than happy to help you through it!

Remember We All Start Small

Remember that everyone starts somewhere and it is a small start unless we purchased a fully running food blog. This is expensive so it’s not likely any of us do this in the beginning. But practice makes perfect! Not that anyone is ever really perfect, but you can perfect processes (photography, blog posts and social media for example) with practice.

The most successful bloggers are the ones who have taken the time to learn and grow. They’ve made mistakes, but they’ve also learned from those mistakes. So if you’re feeling doubtful about your blog, remember that everyone starts somewhere.

And with a little practice, you’ll be able to overcome your self-doubt and work hard to become a successful blogger too. Please note that it takes a lot of work to become a successful blogger. But if you are persistent and keep pushing forward, you can make it happen.

I first started my food blog with very little knowledge about food blogging. I knew how to cook but didn’t know how to take appetizing photos. Trust me, I will have to add some before and after pictures in a post one day for a good laugh! I cringe when I see some of the old pictures.

Believe in Yourself

Just because you’re not where you want to be right now doesn’t mean you never will be. Keep believing in yourself and keep working hard, and eventually you’ll reach the success you’re striving for.

It may take a few years, food blogging is not an overnight success. There is no magic wand to wave (would love it if there was) but hard work pays off. While we can never guarantee success, if you do not believe in yourself you cannot find success.

So if you’re ever feeling doubtful about your blog, remember to believe in yourself. With a little hard work and determination, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Many food bloggers give up before they ever reach success. It takes a lot of work to run a food blog and if you know this going in and are willing to commit to it, you will have a much better chance of reaching your goals.

You got this!

Conclusion

And that’s how to overcome self-doubt as a food blogger! Small steps and lots of self-belief will help you to get past any obstacles you may encounter. And with a little practice and hard work, you’ll be able to achieve success in your food blogging journey. So never give up on your dreams and keep pushing forward!
